DR DAVID LOWE
Coach. Educator. Author. Researcher. Podcaster
David has coached a wide range of individuals and organisations — from start-ups to established enterprises — across multiple industries, including pharma, travel, health, fashion, charity, wine, government, law, agriculture, automotive, and finance.
He holds a doctorate in coaching and mentoring from Oxford Brookes University, where his pioneering research explored the experiences of spontaneous humour in dyadic coaching — how it emerges, how it is received, and how it affects the coaching experience — alongside a postgraduate certificate in Business & Personal Coaching from the University of Chester, Professional Certified Coach (PCC) accreditation with the International Coaching Federation and a range of Agile-related qualifications.
David is the author of ‘Coaching Journal: A guide and journal‘, ‘The Innovation Revelation: A story about how to satisfy customer needs‘, ‘6 Steps to a Successful Agile Implementation‘, ‘The Lemonade Stall: How to test and validate ideas‘, ‘The Online Facilitator’s Cookbook‘ and ‘Scrum 101: the most frequently asked questions about Agile with Scrum‘. He is also the host of THE COACH’S BACKPACK podcast.
HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
“My offering is best explained as being a bit like a sweet shop: there are a number of jars on the shelf (containing coaching, mentoring, education and facilitating) and you can choose which you want to have. If it makes sense for you, we can take a mixture from multiple jars.”
Flexible approach
Work with David in a way that works best for you.
You can hire him by the hour, for multiple hours, or whole days.
He also works on a zero-day notice period so you’re not committing upfront to a lengthy engagement. You can stop whenever you want.
Coaching
Coaching creates a reflective, spacious environment where you can think more clearly, uncover new possibilities and make meaningful progress. My approach is non-directive, relational and grounded in curiosity. While the focus is always on your insights and choices, I can share perspective or experience when genuinely helpful — offered lightly and only in service of your growth.
Education
My coach education work blends practical skills, reflective practice and evidence-based approaches to help people coach with confidence and integrity. I draw on a broad range of professional experience — including leadership, product development, design thinking and Agile ways of working — where useful, but always in support of developing each person’s unique coaching style.
Art of Professional Coaching programme
Accompanied by the skilful Linda Spencer MCC, I help people develop confident, ethical, human-centred coaching skills through practical training, reflective practice, and evidence-based approaches. My teaching draws on years of professional experience across coaching, leadership and product development, integrating theory and practice to support each person in shaping their own authentic coaching style.
Receive coaching
My coaching creates a reflective space for you to think clearly, explore possibilities and make meaningful, sustainable progress. It’s non-directive, relational and grounded in curiosity. When helpful, I can offer perspective from my experience — but always lightly, and only in service of your insight and growth.
I am accompanied by a faculty of experienced coaches, mentor coaches and coach supervisors.
Join the Coach Hub
The Coach Hub is a supportive community where coaches practise together, explore challenges, share ideas and grow their craft. Through hot-seat sessions, meet-and-greets, business development conversations and shared resources, members connect, learn and build confidence in a relaxed, encouraging environment.
Research
My research explores how humour, presence and relational dynamics shape coaching conversations. I share insights, tools and models that help coaches work more humanely and effectively. Ongoing projects — including global studies and applied practical frameworks — aim to deepen understanding of what truly supports transformation in coaching.
DAVID'S PUBLICATIONS
The Coach's Backpack podcast
THE COACH’S BACKPACK podcast asks a variety of coaches (from voice to parenting) what they consider to be the most important tools of their trade, physically and/or mentally.
They are only allowed to take limited items on a hypothetical new engagement: one book, one tool/technique/approach/framework, one other item of their choice … and a person to accompany them. Hosted by David Lowe.
